Thanksgiving 2012…A Fable

I look back on Thanksgiving 2012 with such fond memories. The wife got up at 6am to begin the arduous task of cooking our annual ThanksgivingFeast. The smell of Turkey Bacon cooking in the pan made its way upstairs, awakening me from my slumber. Soon I was downstairs lending a helping hand by brewing the coffee…so thankful for VIA packets. By 6:30am we said a quick word of thanks over our delicious Thanksgiving Breakfast, then proceeded to shovel down our hash browned potatoes with a gravy mix, scrambled eggs, cranberry jam on pumpkin bread toast and the centerpiece of the meal, the afore mentioned turkey bacon. Made it by 6:45, just in time for the family to arrive….on Skype. First we talked with our oldest son and his wife, who had camped out the night before at Target. Got a good spot, 65th in line for its 9pm opening. The grandkids were….somewhere. Our younger son and his wife had decided to divide and conquer…him at Best Buy since Tuesday and her at WalMart since last Thanksgiving. Ah, it was wonderful to see their cold, exhausted faces as we, as a family, thanked God for WiFi. Then it was time to load up the car with our camping chairs and blankets and head out to that festive of all truly meaningful holidays…Black Friday…which now starts on Bleak Thursday. Ah, the joys of buying things that you can’t afford, for people that you can’t be with, because they are out buying things for you that they can’t afford.
Oh, fond memories indeed. My, how Thanksgiving brings the family together in a wonderful spirit of Thankfulness!
